Bring the Community Into the School

Roundtable   +   Community Connections   +   High School
Meridian High School implemented an alternative program, PM School, in the fall of 1999. The PM School was designed to reach the at-risk students that were at least 16 years of age and two grade levels behind. This program enabled them to receive a high school diploma by completing the state requirements for graduation. As one of their requirements, they were to complete two semesters of community service. As a new program, we added, deleted, and rearranged as we went. As we look to the future of the program we want to continue to improve its community service aspect. Through discussion with other educators, we hope to explore insights and options for improving community service in the alternative school.
