Thumbprinting the Student: Understanding and Incorporating Individuality

Workshop   +   Cycle of Inquiry   +   Everyone
Common Principles Three, Four, and Five state that we will "Apply goals to all students," "Personalize teaching and learning," and "Emphasize the metaphor of 'student as worker.'" How do we do this in a comprehensive way that is not "hit or miss" depending on individual students, teachers, or advisors, and in the time we have to make it happen? In this hands-on, discussion-oriented workshop, participants will experience Watkinson's "Thumbprint Program," a system that enables advisors, students, and parents to collaborate in understanding each student's individual strengths, needs, and interests. The system also enables the development of appropriate goals and plans of action, and the fostering of students' responsibility and commitment to furthering their own growth.
