Using a Cycle of Inquiry to Improve Instruction

In this all-day session, participants will learn how to use a cycle of inquiry to do "action research" in their own classrooms. After developing a question that explores an area of instruction of vital interest to them, participants will learn strategies for collecting and analyzing data to answer that question. We will give particular attention to protocols that guide the effective, collaborative review of student work and other sources of information about student learning. This session is led by John Newlin of CES at the Southern Maine Partnership (a CES Regional Center), and four Maine teachers who have been participating in a CES collaborative action research project funded by the DeWitt-Wallace Readers Digest Fund: Heidi Brewer and Heidi Early (Noble H.S.), Audrey Lingley (Yarmouth H.S.), and Cheri Poulin (Thornton Academy).

All pre-conference events require advance registration and payment of fees in addition to the regular conference fee.
