Community Partnerships for Equity's Sake

Workshop   +   Community Connections   +   Everyone
When educators and parents collaborate for school change, the results can be both transformative and sustainable. In this participatory workshop, presenters will share how BayCES and Oakland Community Organizations in Oakland collaborated to develop and implement district-wide school reform. Based on lessons learned in Oakland, participants will unearth assumptions about relationships between schools and communities. Furthermore, presenters will teach basic organizing concepts and participants will have an opportunity to practice organizing strategies. The workshop will end with participants reflecting on how to bring these new learnings back to their communities.
