Many Voices, One School: A Multicultural School Designed by Community Members and Educators for All of Our Children as a Model for Change

Workshop   +   School Design   +   Everyone
Designing a school in which all children use their minds well presents unique challenges and incredible benefits for both the children and adults. Hayground School will be presented as a working model for those interested in designing a school where dialogue and collaboration are fundamental to ensuring that all children are best served in their learning environments. Participants will engage in stimulating discussions about what goes into creating the best conditions for providing lively, equitable and intellectually rigorous classrooms as a starting point for creating a school design. Working collaboratively in small groups, the participants will create a school design that integrates the following Common Principles: "Help Students Use Their Minds Well", "Consider Teachers as Generalists with a Commitment to the Entire School", and "Model Democratic and Equitable Practices".
