Don't Let the Tail Wag the Dog: College Admissions Are No Excuse to Limit High School Designs and Innovations
|
| Workshop + School Design + High School |
| There is a rich tradition of innovation in high schools in this country, yet almost all innovation has been based on a variation of original classroom lessons based on standard academic subjects. The fear of harming students' college admissions opportunities has gotten in the way of truly throwing off the blinders to the great potential for high school education. The Met Center has no year-long classes and no grades given as assessments, yet has developed a transcript and application process that has gained a college acceptance for every member of their first senior class (June 2000). These 46 students received 90 acceptances from 36 colleges and universities around the country. |
