Small Schools, Big Ideas: Creating and Sustaining Smaller Learning Communities

Workshop   +   Managing Whole School Change   +   High School
Creating smaller learning comunities as a strategy for whole school change leads to increased student achievement and decreased negative student behavior. Small schools are places where children are known and visible, and where their needs and interests can be met. Participants in this session will experience a variety of activities that forward their understanding of how and why smaller learning communities are an effective restructuring strategy. Additionally, information will be presented on the US Department of Education's Smaller Learning Community Initiative and how schools and districts can access the next round of funding opportunities.
