Mass Chaos: Are the Students in Charge of Their Curriculum?
Facilitator(s): Josh Gould
| Roundtable + Classroom Practice: curriculum & instruction + High School |
| Does the idea of using an old, dusty grammar book in your class offend you even on your best days? If you are ready for wholesale change to your English curriculum, consider the idea of an individual writing curriculum for every student. We will explore an individualized process in which all students start the year with a Personal Writing Plan conference; this tool facilitates a student's clear understanding of where they need to go as a writer. Based on those conferences, the teacher and student agree on a list of objectives and/or assignments they will progress toward in a cumulative writing portfolio. In this roundtable, we will discuss the challenges and benefits of creating the personalized learning opportunities that make our students better writers. |
