Involve Me and I Understand: Using Creative Writing in the Social Studies Class
Facilitator(s): Cleo Carpenter

Roundtable   +   Classroom Practice: curriculum & instruction   +   High School
Learning is what you have left over after you forget everything you memorize. Engaging activities and hands-on experiences enhance the enjoyment of a social studies class. In this roundtable discussion, participants will explore methods for teaching right-brained, creative writing assignments: using poetry, dialogue, oral histories, and children's books. We will discuss how these activities might serve to improve general writing skills and assess full understanding of essential questions and themes in history. Participants will be invited to write and share a poem using one of the formats presented.
Date/Time: Friday, 8:00am - 9:00am   Room: Sheraton Boardroom   Session #69
