How the Professional Community Principal Improves Student Learning in a Collaborative Environment
Facilitator(s): Nancy Fenton, Shug Brandell

Workshop   +   Leadership: change process   +   Everyone
Louis, Kruse, and Marks say that there are very specific features of professional community: shared norms and values, focused student learning, reflective dialogue, and collaboration. The creation of this highly desirable environment places special responsibility on the principal, requiring involved understanding of these facets, their collective importance for student growth, and reflection on one's own beliefs. This workshop, through activities designed to stimulate intellectual rigor, reflection, and a greater understanding of the instructional standards, will provide principals with necessary tools for professional community building. The workshop will be most helpful for principals or CSS/CFG facilitators seeking ideas for a principal institute.
