Day-Long Session: Creating Smaller and More Human Schools

A major high school reform effort has been significantly undertaken in the past two years--converting large comprehensive high schools into small, autonomous, and focused schools. In this day-long session, participants will work with Rick Lear, director of the Small Schools Project at the Center for Re-inventing Public Education at the University of Washington, and others involved in high school conversions. The focus will be on what other schools are trying and learning across the nation, and on helping participants identify critical issues to address if they decide to "break up" a large high school. Experienced leaders from small schools will also provide expertise and examples for participants.
