Rethinking the District: How Oakland Unified is Changing Schools by Changing Itself
Facilitator(s): Evelyn Morabe, Jose Martinez, Lisa Lasky, Steve Jubb

Workshop   +   Leadership: change process   +   Everyone
This session works from a case study of the New Small Autonomous School (NSAS) initiative in Oakland, CA, where six NSA schools have opened and many more are to follow. Participants will learn how the district is using NSAS to restructure itself and to reculture the whole district, including the "downtown" administration. We will engage a set of artifacts and analyze them against a set of district design principles. Participants will use these principles to reflect on how they could be applied in their own districts.
Date/Time: Saturday, 1:30pm - 3:30pm   Room: CC 606   Session #272
