Look, Linger and Learn: Teacher As Researcher
Facilitator(s): Monique Brinson, Folashade Cromwell, Grace Davenport, Brian Wright

Workshop   +   School Design: teacher collaboration & learning   +   Elementary School
Utilizing "teacher as researcher" is a practice that has not reached its full potential in our nation's educational system. According to Ballenger (1999), this underused component of teaching holds the most promise for giving teachers voice as student advocates, committed professionals, and educational change agents. In this session, participants will explore an innovative teacher researcher group model developed and implemented by a group of four third grade teachers at Young Achievers Science & Mathematics Pilot School in Jamaica Plain, MA. Participants will hear from teachers putting the eighth Common Principle into practice as they share the process of "teacher and scholar in general education," and will generate ideas for a resource guide to model and implement a "teacher as researcher" group.
