| Workshop + Classroom Practice: curriculum & instruction + High School |
| In this session, participants will learn how to structure a unit that provides a community-based experience for students. The Junior Community Action Project (J-CAP) has four goals: (1) to change, improve, or reform a situation; (2) to develop leadership skills; (3) to access community resources; and (4) to collaborate. Participants will review the J-CAP unit, sample student notebooks, learn how to use inquiry to pose a problem, use a protocol to simulate a fine tuning which can be used in the classroom, and create a plan for implementation. The outcome of the project can
have lifelong implications for students' ability to create change in their communities. |
