Using Artificial Intelligence to Increase Algebra Comprehension

Students are "Learning by Doing™" at Lakes High School in Washington. By implementing an algebra curriculum that combines cooperative learning in the classroom with computer tutoring in the lab, Lakes High School has greatly increased student success in mastering concepts and improving problem-solving skills. The workshop facilitators, a teacher and a student, will guide participants in Cognitive Tutor Algebra I classroom activities. Participants will also have the opportunity to work with the Cognitive Tutor software, which uses artificial intelligence to individualize student learning.
