A Passion for Excellence in Teaching--and How We Undermine It
|
Facilitator(s): Robert Fried
|
| Roundtable + Classroom Practice: curriculum & instruction + High School |
"How and why are teachers' learning goals for students so often undermined by their grading practices, and how do we get out of that trap?" This roundtable experience and discussion will begin with teachers focusing on a course they currently teach. We will compare their long-range learning goals for students with their current grading practices, using specially designed "pie-chart" graphs. Discussions of how a school's culture and conventions often lead to teachers giving students mixed messages on what is truly important will hopefully lead participants to reconcile grading with goals, in the interest of promoting excellence in teaching and learning.
Robert will be signing copies of his books at the Fall Forum at an event called, Meet the Authors. |
