Facilitator(s): Connie Borab, Damon Smith

Workshop   +   Classroom Practice: curriculum & instruction   +   High School
Through participation in this interactive workshop, participants will explore how to incorporate creative writing projects into a variety of content area curricula. Creative writing assignments give students unique opportunities to be at the center of their learning, to develop their skills and habits of mind, to demonstrate deep understanding of content, and to personalize their learning. This workshop will explore a process of setting learning goals for a particular unit, crafting a creative writing piece to deepen the understanding of the content and to develop skills, and learning to assess the process and product. Participants will engage several parts of the process and will be able to share writings and develop project ideas. Several creative writing assignments, as well as samples of students' writing, will be presented and reviewed.
