Seeing through the Spotlight: A Closer Look at Thematic Use and Assessment
Facilitator(s): Alicia Carroll, Ayla Gavins, Janerra Williams

Roundtable   +   Classroom Practice: assessment   +   Everyone
Thematic work and the ever-present assessment are two topics firmly in the spotlight on the stage of educational issues. This roundtable discussion will investigate these topics as they relate to each other in the curriculum. How do we assess project work when implementing a theme as part of the curriculum? Participants will discuss how to engage students in grades K-8 around a central topic or theme and how to assess the project work that emerges. More specifically, we will ask how that assessment is geared toward each individual student and how to determine what his or her particular needs are. Participants and facilitators will both contribute to and learn from the discussion, geared to enhance practice around theme work and assessment for all students.
