| Workshop + Classroom Practice: curriculum & instruction + High School |
| This workshop explores how a literature unit for the novel "Frankenstein" was literally brought to life! Students built very creative, large (over seven feet tall!) sculptures of the novel's monster to abstractly and symbolically show their responses to an essential question. As these sculptures increased in size, so did the the depth and profundity of the student learning. Participants in this workshop will explore how the power of monsters, in juxtaposition with the act of creation, can be a valuable learning tool. The workshop will also give participants an overview of the project, including a discussion of how to teach with essential questions, develop assessment rubrics, and adapt this teaching model to any other literary work or lesson unit. This is not just for English teachers! All are welcome. |
