Making It in High School When So Many Can Barely Read and Write: An Online Tool to Improve Content Area Learning

| Facilitators will take participants on a guided tour of the Adolescent Literacy Spotlight, a powerful, free online resource for improving the essential reading and writing skills needed for high achievement in content areas. Facilitators will offer descriptions, examples, resources, and related research. Participants will learn to use the Knowledge Loom to explore the four "Key Components of Adolescent Literacy," and will work together to create applications for classrooms. We will then complete and discuss an analytical assessment tool for use with the components and best practices to improve adolescent literacy in our own content area classrooms. |
