Implementing an Effective School-wide Advisory Program
Facilitator(s): Fred Hayes

Workshop   +   School Design: structures   +   High School
According to "Breaking Ranks: Changing an American Institution," every high school student should have a Personal Adult Advocate to help him or her personalize the educational experience. One way to accomplish this is by implementing an advisory program built into the master schedule. This session will explain a relatively painless way to implement such a program; facilitators will share how to get even the most "resistant" faculty members to buy into the concept and participate. Ideas for activities and functions of the program will be shared. Learn how one large high school uses this program to raise exit-level scores, improve attendance, decrease dropout rates, and "make a connection" with each student on the campus.
Date/Time: Saturday, 10:30am - 12:30pm   Room: CC 209   Session #15
