Are We on the Same Page? Inter-Reader Reliability in the Portfolio Process

Are we as teachers, school staff, and critical friends of the portfolio process on the same page when it comes to assessing our portfolios? What procedures are in place at school to ensure that portfolio grading is consistent? Can we prove that our process of assessing our portfolios is reliable? In this session, a model "handbook" will be presented that outlines criteria for grading portfolios using a staff-designed rubric and sample papers. We will review this "handbook" and discuss how to foster inter-reader reliability in the portfolio process. Participants will share their ideas so we can all take a "toolbox" of strategies back to our schools.
